On Sunday 16th September, 70 masons with their wives, partners and family members spent a lazy afternoon meandering through the Somerset countryside on the West Somerset Railway (WSR) “Quantock Belle” Pullman service. This exclusive Charter of the entire Pullman coach set was hauled by a vintage restored steam locomotive on a return journey from Bishop’s Lydeard (near Taunton) up to Minehead whilst the passengers enjoyed a leisurely “silver service” lunch served on board and extremely well-looked after by the volunteer staff of the WSR.
An added bonus was that the WSR were holding a 1940’s themed event across their network that weekend and had arranged for their station platforms to be suitably decorated with WW2 period memorabilia, staff and volunteers to be in period dress, military or otherwise, other static displays and even a running a steam goods train loaded with wartime materiel. Many of the passengers also joined in with the fun by wearing apparel suitable for the historic period!
Feedback from the passengers to the Organiser, W.Bro Craig Cox PAGDC ProvGTreas, has been absolutely wonderful with so many people saying they had not experienced "such a good afternoon out for many a good year.” And the good news is that the profits from the sale of tickets will be donated by Craig to the MCF Funds. Not only that, but the interest generated has meant that the WSR are happy to let us have two further dates to run additional exclusive Charter services for Devonshire Masons, families and friends.

FUTURE DATES & DETAILS
These will be on Sunday 7th April 2019 and Sunday 15th September 2019 when the latter date will coincide once more with the WSR 1940’s weekend.
Tickets cost £75 per head for the return trip and to include a three-course lunch with tea / coffee. There is a bar on board for the sale of drinks and wine. The WSR are holding their prices for us so that the two additional Charters will cost the same.
